In animation, a smear frame is used to stylistically visualize fast movement along a path of motion. These frames are placed in between "key frames" in order to simulate motion blur. The smear frame technique has been in use since the early 1940s and is a unique and entrancing aspect of traditional hand-drawn animation. Yeah, they're dope.
